Opera has a New Home in Sydney!!

Opera Australia’s most expensive production ever will be hitting Sydney this fall with Handa Opera on Sydney Harbor’s production of La Traviata. The sweeping project, which includes more than 130 performers, 240 Opera Australia staff and 60 volunteers, cost an estimated $11.5 million to produce.

United States director Francesca Zambella takes the helm of this version of La Traviata. Some of the most elite performers in the opera world bring the La Traviata story to life: Australian sopranos Emma Matthews and Rachelle Durkin trade off to play Violetta, and Italian tenor Gianluca Terranova and Korean tenor Ji-Min Park alternate as Alfredo.

Several elements make this production of La Traviata unlike any other previous Opera Australia performances. The design features amazing Mardi-Gras costumes, the largest Chesterfield in the world, a giant chandelier of Swarovski crystal, and a gigantic floating stage. Spectators will also enjoy a brilliant fireworks display. The forty-piece orchestra will provide the music for the event. It is estimated that the seating can accommodate up the three thousand spectators. Spectators will have amazing views of Sydney Harbor and the city skyline.

Being a sculptor leads everything I do. Every project I take on starts from that point.

I believe that an artist must be an ideasmonger responding to all kinds of physical location, social and political environments, to materials,

to processes,to timescales and budgets.

I also believe that sculpture just about encompasses everything – a painting can be a sculpture, a TV ad can be a sculpture, a dance, a performance,

a film, a video – all of thse kinds of art and many more can be sculpture.

When I have ideas I want to make them, and not just some of them, but all of them. As a result of that my sculpture covers a multitude of sins.

I like to work in as many different materials as possible. It’s no understatement to say I am a materials junkie – jumping from highly-painted

realistic cast fibreglass pieces to sculpture with coathangers, to a thatched barn roof laced with fibre-optics to designs for camera obscuras

(or at least the buildings to house them) and layouts for parks.

Recently, collage has had a huge influence on my sculpture. I spend so much time on collage, looking at, sorting out, re-arranging, and sticking

thousands of images a week that ideas for sculpture will pop into my head whole, complete with a list of materials to make them with and a take on

the different environments, museums and galleries they will inhabit.

The sculpture you will see in this section covers a lot of figurative work, made from a variety of materials, Scrabble pieces, dominoes, coathangers,

heads from matches, fibreglass installations on ships and performance outside in the street, but you will have to jump from heading to heading to

get the full range of my sculpture.

We live in the modern technology time. You can easy find all kind of gadgets wherever you wants. Smart phones, digital cameras, tablet computers and much more. Imagine life 50 years ago…imagine life 100 years ago. There is no digital cameras, there is no facebook or twitter, there’s no even television. Taking picture in those times was special thing and only few people was able to do this. They should have a lot of creative design in order to take proper photographs that will shape new ages and leave memories of history that we know. As all you know, old day photographs were black and white because in those ages there’s no technology to get color photographs. We always imagine how really some of those scenes looked in their original time when photos are taken. The arts institute and Americans for the arts holds a poster designing competition every year. This is the ninth consecutive year that the organization is holding the competition. As Art Institutes and Americans for the Arts announce ninth annual Poster Design Competition, the registrations for the same starts on February 3^rd 2011. The organization has invited many schools and colleges for their high school seniors and graduated to take part in the competition. These schools belong to various cities of the United States of America, Canada and Puerto Rico. The organization also has announced the theme of the poster making competition – you can create tomorrow.

This gives students enough time to bring in the ideas and create poster which is one of the kind. The main aim of the competition is to search for young talent and also to nurture them. The winners of this competition will be given full tuition fee scholarship to study in any field of art.
